Perform An Amazing Feat Of Olde!

In 1927 Oldetime Strongman Charles MacMahon wrote a book called Feats of Strength and Dexterity. In it he talked about a method in which a single man could hold four men (or more) back with the grip of one hand. He stated:

“This feat makes a very sensational display to the average person and is a real strong-man feat. You must have two iron rings, or triangles would be better as they give you two straight sides when the triangles are put together and also leave the outside two points for the ropes to be tied to. When the ropes are tied to the one outside point of each triangle and pulled upon, the triangles pull apart evenly in the hand.

After you have the ropes securely tied to the triangles, let two men take hold of each rope, facing each other as in a tug-of-war; then, putting the two triangles together, put your fingers through them, grasping the two sides farthest from the ropes and tighten your grip upon them. Now the men are instructed to pull steadily while you hold them from pulling the triangles or rings apart by the strength of one hand."

As you can see in this picture from one of my performances years ago, this is a tremendously visual feat of strength. Therefore, as you would guess, it is a crowd pleaser. If you have a strong grip and you do any sort of strength /martial arts demonstrations, I highly recommend that you add this feat to your repertoire.

What makes this feat so effective is the fact that you use people from the audience to supply the resistance. Therefore, there will most likely be others in the crowd that will know your opponents and therefore immediately label the feat as just what it is- a GENUINE FEAT OF PURE GRIP STRENGTH!
